Engineered Flooring
In some ways, engineered flooring has its good points and its bad points. Below is a picture of engineered flooring compared to solid wood flooring.

As you can see, the top board is a solid 3/4" piece of oak. The engineered flooring and longstrip plank flooring (both only 1/2"-5/8" thick) are usually manufactured in 5-9 layers of wood (plywood) with a layer of the finished or unfinished, thin veneer wood as the top layer. This is the same as veneered wood used in furniture. But, let's face it! We don't walk on furniture, so we need to be careful about what quality of engineered, veneered flooring we buy! Question is: Will the quality of the engineered flooring we use be good enough to be walked on?
As you've already guessed, this leaves the door open for quite an array of poorly manufactured, cheap quality engineered flooring.
